If you’re dreaming of a wedding venue surrounded by breathtaking scenery, rich history, and warm Welsh hospitality, The Old Rectory Hotel in Llangattock, Crickhowell, is a gem that deserves a place at the top of your shortlist. Set within the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, this elegant 16th-century country house blends timeless character, beautiful grounds, and exceptional service—creating the perfect backdrop for a truly unforgettable wedding day.

As a wedding DJ who has worked at countless venues across Wales and the West Midlands, I’m always looking for places that offer not just beauty, but great flow, great atmosphere, and great photo opportunities. The Old Rectory Hotel delivers all of that and more.

A Historic Country House Full of Character

Originally a rectory dating back to the 1500s, this gorgeous venue retains all the charm of a classic Welsh manor house—think period features, cosy reception rooms, and wonderful views of the Black Mountains. Despite its historic roots, the hotel has been thoughtfully refurbished, giving couples the perfect balance of old-world romance and modern comfort.

The moment you arrive, you’re greeted by sweeping mountain scenery and peaceful landscaped grounds, setting the tone for a calm, intimate celebration.

Licensed Spaces for Beautiful Civil Ceremonies

The Old Rectory Hotel is fully licensed for civil ceremonies, making it easy to enjoy your entire day in one stunning location.

Ceremony options include:

  • The Ceremony Suite – Seats up to 100 guests, with soft, elegant décor and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

  • Outdoor spaces – The grounds are perfect for romantic outdoor ceremonies when the weather is on your side, offering incredible mountain views.

No matter the size of your guest list, you’ll find a ceremony space that fits your vision.

Flexible Spaces for Your Wedding Breakfast & Evening Reception

Whether you’re planning a small, intimate gathering or a lively celebration for up to 200 people, the Old Rectory Hotel offers versatile rooms to suit your day:

Indoor Function Room

Ideal for smaller wedding breakfasts of up to 90 guests.

The Ballroom

A very popular choice, with space for

  • 100 guests seated for a formal meal

  • Up to 200 guests for the evening party

The ballroom also features a private bar—a massive plus for atmosphere and convenience—and plenty of space for dancing, speeches, and entertainment.

As a DJ, I can say the layout works brilliantly for evening receptions. The dancefloor has good acoustics, there’s enough space for lighting setups, and guests can move easily between the bar, ballroom, and outdoor areas.

17 Acres of Grounds – Dream Wedding Photos Await

The Old Rectory Hotel sits within 17 acres of beautiful private grounds, including:

  • manicured gardens

  • an ancient orchard

  • rolling lawns

  • a sun terrace with breathtaking Black Mountains views

Photographers absolutely love this venue, and the variety of backdrops means you’ll come away with a stunning, diverse gallery of wedding photos.

Whether it’s golden hour portraits in the orchard or scenic group shots on the lawn, the opportunities are endless.

Delicious Food & Tailored Wedding Menus

The hotel’s in-house catering team is passionate about local, high-quality Welsh produce. Whether you prefer:

  • a classic three-course meal

  • a relaxed buffet

  • special dietary options

  • or something bespoke

—The Old Rectory can create a menu that fits your style and your budget.

Couples consistently praise the quality of the food and the team’s willingness to adapt dishes to suit personal preferences.

Beautiful On-Site Accommodation for You & Your Guests

One of the huge advantages of this venue is the on-site accommodation. With 21 bedrooms sleeping around 50 guests, you can keep your loved ones nearby—from the evening before right through to breakfast the next day.

The highlight is the Honeymoon Suite, complete with:

  • a four-poster bed

  • Jacuzzi bath

  • elegant décor

It’s the perfect space to relax, unwind, and enjoy your first night as a married couple.
